DES MOINES, IA - Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee announced on Twitter Monday night he was suspending his presidential campaign.
Huckabee said, "I am officially suspending my campaign. Thank you for all your loyal support."
He announced this the same night after the Iowa caucuses where Senator Ted Cruz and Donald Trump took the top two spots.
Huckabee spoke to his supporters after the announcement saying, "It's time to officially suspend the campaign, but not because of the votes. It's because of illness. Obviously the voters are sick of me and I need to acknowledge that."
In his presidential campaign back in 2008, Huckabee finished first in the caucuses beating out opponent John McCain.
On the democratic side, Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley pulled out of the race too.
