Suspected car thieves charged in court

A pair of suspected car thieves were officially charged in court Monday.

According to an affidavit, Medon D. Waters and Mario Roberto Zepeda Carrante are now facing felony charges.

Waters faces charges of theft greater than $1,000 and breaking or entering.

Zepeda Carrante faces  charges of theft greater than $1,000, theft by receiving greater than $1,000 and debit/credit card theft.

It stems from a case reported on Region 8 News last week. In that case, an unattended car was stolen while the driver was letting it warm up.

Court documents stated officers used a GPS device on the car to find the vehicle.

Documents stated police saw Zepeda Carrante drive up to a gas station in the stolen car and then Waters pull up behind him in Zepeda Carrante's vehicle on security camera footage from the station.

Police later tracked the stolen car to Waters' home on Steele Street using the GPS.

They are both expected in court again on Feb. 26.
