GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Greene County Sheriff's Department is investigating after they found several dead dogs and more injured. Meanwhile, a reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
They discovered 7 dead dogs and 3 seriously injured on the ground in Mounds.
Deputy Rick Mellow with the Greene County Sheriff's Department said it appears as though someone may have used the animals for target practice.
Two of the animals that were still alive had to be put down while one was sent to a veterinarian in the hopes of saving its life.
That dog later died at the vet's office.
Northeast Arkansas For Animal or NAFA is now stepping in to help find who hurt the dogs.
Wanda Turner with NAFA said they are offering $1,000 to any tips that lead to an arrest in the case.
"People don't realize that the smallest amount of information can sometimes bring the biggest leads and eventually catch someone," Turner said.
Turner said catching the suspects now could help prevent possible crimes in the future.
"To euthanize a dog is something a vet needs to do, it is not something you need to do yourself by shooting the dogs and leaving them somewhere and leaving some of them half alive," Turner said. "I mean that is just cruel and unusual."
Turner also reached out to ASPCA and HUSU to offer more reward money in the case.
If you have any information about this crime, please contact the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
