BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Blytheville's city budget passed last Friday, but with it came some big cuts at the fire department.
Fire Chief Mike Carney said station 3 on Dakota Street will be closed down, which will make a longer response time for residents living in the station's zone.
Four firefighters will lose their jobs.
Carney said equipment will be left at the station but it will not be used all the time.
Because of the cuts, there will be a 2-minute delay in response time.
Janet Green living just blocks from the station said 2 minutes is a lot when thinking about an emergency.
"If a fire would go up the apartments would be gone before they could get here," Green said. "Two minutes is going to make a big difference and it might be our lives."
Green said she is not happy to hear the news and just hopes she and her neighbors are still safe.
Carney said the changes will take place within the next few weeks.
