JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Police Department launched a new outreach program recently.

They spent Wednesday at the Hispanic Community Services to discuss the program called “Mi Amigo El Policia.”

According to a post on the JPD Facebook page, it is designed to provide members of the Hispanic community who have questions or concerns about their community.

Residents are able to speak privately with Sgt. Cassie Brandon, a community outreach and recruiting coordinator for the police department.

Leo Braslavsky with HCSI said he believes this program is the only one of its kind in Arkansas.

“They are foreigners, they come here to the United States, it's a new country, new system, new rules,” Braslavsky said. “The whole fact of being new, not knowing how things work it makes them scared.”

Sessions are scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
