SEARCY, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 restaurant abruptly closed its doors Thursday.

Ryan’s Buffet, 3608 E. Race Ave. in Searcy, was one of 74 restaurants throughout the United States permanently closed by its owners.

According to a news release from the parent company, Food Management Partners, “employees of the closed restaurants will be given the opportunity to apply for positions at operating stores.”

Peter Donbavand, vice president of business development, said it was “necessary to shutter locations for the continued viability of the brands and our employees.”

“We know that these decisions are not easy; however, we strongly believe that this direction is best for the long-term health of all brands,”

In addition to Ryan’s, the company also owns Old Country Buffet, Hometown Buffet, Fire Mountain, and Country Buffet restaurants throughout the U.S.

“We know that these decisions are not easy; however, we strongly believe that this direction is best for the long-term health of all brands,” Donbavand said.

The closure comes just months after Food Management Partners acquired Ovation Brands in August 2015.

“While we cannot predict future market conditions, the plan is to continue operating the remaining Ovation Brands’ restaurants as they are financially viable.”

Ryan’s in Jonesboro and Poplar Bluff remain open at this time.
