Filing for vacant city council seat begins

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Filing has begun for a vacant city council position and so far, no one has filed to run in the May 10 race.

Candidates interested in the Ward 6, position 1 seat on the Jonesboro City Council can register through March 11. Candidates will replace former Alderman Tim McCall who resigned earlier this year because he moved out of Ward 6.

The winner of the race will fill McCall's seat for the next two and a half years.

If the race would require a runoff, it would be held June 7.

If a candidate is interested in the position, they must submit the signatures of at least 30 registered voters in Joensboro, a statement of financial interest, a political practices pledge and a notice of candidacy. Those packets can be picked up at the Craighead County Clerk's Office.
