Sikeston DPS investigating phone scam

SIKESTON, MO (KAIT) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating a phone scam that's been targeting the town.

According to a post on their Facebook page, the department has received several reports from local businesses that they have received calls from a man who says he is with the Board of Municipal Utilities.

The caller reportedly demands payment for services and threatens that the utilities will be shut off if the payment is not made.

BMU officials advised the department of public safety that they do not make these types of phone calls. Businesses would be contacted in person if a payment needed to be made.

The Sikeston DPS asks that anyone with information about this incident contacts them at 573-471-4711 or come to the department at 201 S. Kingshighway.
