Wrestling Wins Inaugural NAIA American Midwest Conference Championship

Walnut Ridge, AR (Williams Baptist) - The Williams Baptist College Eagles wrestling squad took home the first ever American Midwest Conference Championship in dominating fashion. The match was held Saturday at Hannibal-LaGrange University, in Hannibal, Mo.

The Eagles won a total of four individual championships, and the team championship by a score of 191.  The next highest was Missouri Baptist University, with 155.5.

The individual champions are: Tyler Fraley (SO/Freehold, N.J. ) (SO/Freehold, N.J.) (141 lb.), Jonathan Stewart (SO/Blaine, Wash.) (SO/Blaine, Wash.) (157 lb.), Daniel Rittell (SO/Slaughter, La. ) (SO/Slaughter, La.) (165 lb.), and Tyler Dibert (JR/Imler, Penn. ) (JR/Imler, Penn.) (184 lb.).

Other wrestlers from WBC who made the podium are: Dante Padilla (SO/Weeki Wachee, Fla. ) (2nd place in 141 lb.), Jeffrey Haley (SO/Quincy, Ill.) (2nd place in 184 lb.), Josh Chiles (SO/Little Rock, Ark.) (2nd place in 197 lb., Jaitlan Pitts (FR/Auburn, Ala. ) (3rd place in 133 lb.), Roger Moe (SO/Coppell, Texas) (3rd in HWT), Braden Zini (FR/Little Rock, Ark. ) (3rd place in 197 lb.), Perry Baltz (FR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) (3rd place in 184 lb.), Conner Linehan (JR/St. Louis, Mo.) (3rd in 174 lb.), and Patrick Grigsby (SO/Bentonville, Ark. ) (3rd place in 149 lb.).

"It is an honor to be a part of the first AMC championships," said Head Coach Kerry Regner. "I am very happy for our team to be crowned as champions. Even more so, we entered 18 athletes and all 18 placed in the top six, and 13 in the top three. Commissioner Wolper and staff did a wonderful job putting on the event."

The Eagles will continue to regionals on Feb. 20, and nationals are March 4 and 5 in Topeka, Kan. The regional location will be Batesville, Ark., at Lyon College.
