HAYTI, MO (KAIT) -

A Missouri man is in jail after being charged with arson.

Hayti Police Chief Paul Sheckell stated Dixie S. Reed, Jr., 28, of Hayti was charged with felony first-degree arson on Feb. 5. The charge stems from an investigation on the same day.

Police and fire crews were called to the 700-block of Bell Street around 9 a.m. for a residential fire.

Sheckell said the fire was determined to be arson while crews were on scene and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was contacted to investigate. Reed was arrested during the investigation.

He was taken to a Hayti hospital for smoke inhalation prior to being charged.

Reed is in the Pemiscot County Justice Center on a $150,000 bond.
