CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Members of a Craighead County quorum court committee want district court judges to consider an incentive program to get more people to pay their district court fines.

"There's a huge amount of money on the books in district court," Justice of the Peace Ken Stacks said. "A lot of people who owe $2,000, $5,000, $10,000 and are on a payment plan, it's gonna take them forever to pay it off."

Stacks said he'd like to see the district court judges to offer an incentive to get that money in.

"My hope would be that they might even give a discount for people paying a bulk of it or their whole portion off," Stacks said.

Stacks said the idea would be to limit the amount of time people could pay that money to 90 days.

"I'd like to give them the backing of the finance committee to encourage this to happen," Stacks said.

The committee voted unanimously to request the district court to look into the possibility of such a program.
