MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Mississippi County Sheriff Department's phone line was out of service on Tuesday.

According to Susan Christian, vice president of marketing at Ritter Communications, a fiber line was cut in a field. She believes a tractor cut the wire.

The outage lasted from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Sheriff Dale Coo said the outage affected several inmates' court hearings in Osceola and Blytheville District Courts.

Instead of going before the judge from the prison through a video stream, they had to be transported to the courthouse.

Christian said farmers should always call before they dig so this does not happen again.
