LEPANTO, AR (KAIT) - A traffic stop Wednesday morning ended with the driver ditching the car and taking off on foot.
Around 2:30 a.m. officers stopped James Burrus at the intersection of Oak and Alexander.
After learning he had a suspended license, the officers pulled Burrus out of the vehicle to arrest him.
Chief Chad Henderson said Burrus then ran away from the officers.
"During the foot chase, officers recovered 110 grams of marijuana that Burrus dropped," Henderson said in a news release to Region 8 News.
Officers reportedly lost Burrus during the chase, so they called in a K9 unit to track him down.
The K9 officer followed Burrus' scent for several blocks and located him in a shed behind a home, Henderson said.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a set of scales, the chief said.
Burrus and his passenger, Misty Sparks, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Burrus was also charged with fleeing, tampering with evidence, criminal trespassing, driving on a suspended license and no insurance.
Sparks was also charged with permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
