How would you like to tour old Havana and even ride in a vintage car?  Perhaps a guided tour of the Museum of the Revolution or three nights at a beach resort in Varadero is more your style.

All are points of interest on an educational tour of Cuba being offered by KASU 91.9 and Premier World Discovery. An informational meeting for the public is happening Tuesday, Feb. 23, inside the red entrance at the Convocation Center at 5:30 p.m.

“The trip is not until October; but the meeting is in February,” Doreen Selden, KASU corporate relations director, said. “Everything that you could possibly want to know about this trip will be made available to you.”

Selden provided details of the trip which includes salsa lessons, shopping in local markets, countryside travel to a tobacco farm and cigar factory. The trip is designed to encourage meaningful exchanges with the Cuban people.

“On KASU, our programming has always been designed for meaningful, cultural enrichment,” Selden said. “When this opportunity came up and Premier contacted us, we thought we're going to go for it. We’re going to bring the people out to the world.”

Plans are to visit Ernest Hemingway’s home in Cuba. The Finca Vigia is located ten miles east of Havana and means “lookout house.”

“That’s where he lived for 21 years with his wife, Martha,” Selden said. “There, he had a yacht and that yacht is featured in the novel, Islands in the Stream, and he used that to patrol the Caribbean.”
