JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Westside Middle School student got a big surprise Friday for promoting peace.

Braden Hewitt, 7th grade, was honored at an assembly Friday morning for his entry in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest.

Hewitt’s poster depicted peace between different races and countries in honor of the theme "A Celebration of Peace."

Not only did Hewitt win the local and district contest, he also won the state entry.

Hewitt said the idea of kindness and acceptance is in his poster.

“That should bring our country together, every country, really,” Hewitt said.

Hewitt was awarded $100 by members of the Lions Club along with a standing ovation from his classmates.

His art teacher said as a person, Hewitt represents everything his poster does. She said he is so kind and loving to everyone.

Hewitt’s poster is now in the running for the national title and then could move on to the international contest to win more prize money.
