ASH FLAT, AR - The bodies of an elderly Sharp County couple have been recovered in a creek near Evening Shade, after rapid waters from a rain-swollen creek apparently swept their vehicle from a low-water bridge.

The bodies of  70-year-old Wilborn Williams and his wife, 69-year-old Mary Williams, both of rural Ash Flat, were recovered by members of the Evening Shade Volunteer Fire Department around 7:30 last night.  At approximately 5:05 p.m., a passing motorist spotted a vehicle in Piney Creek, below a low-water bridge on Bear Creek Road.  A deputy was dispatched to the scene, but was unable to locate the car.  Approximately one hour later, another person called the Sheriff's Department and said the car was approximately 300 feet below the bridge.  The caller also told authorities he saw someone inside the vehicle.  More authorities then responded to the scene, and the vehicle was recovered a short time later.

The Williams's were pronounced dead at the scene by the Sharp County Coroner.

Family members told authorities that Mr. & Mrs. Williams had left their residence at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon en route to the Evening Shade area.
