THAYER, MO (KAIT) - A 17-year-old high school student was arrested after police reported they had a gun on school grounds.
Thayer Police Chief Daryl Childers said in a news release that the student was arrested Tuesday shortly after school administration and the school resource officer became aware of the teen having a handgun.
Childers said officers located a stolen .308-caliber rifle and ammunition, a set of handcuffs, leg shackles, knife and "various other types of ammunition including a box of ammunition for a handgun" inside of the student's vehicle.
All of the items were reportedly stolen.
A "large amount" of cash was also found on the teen. Police are not sure if the money was stolen or not.
The student is being held on a $10,000 bond for three counts of receiving stolen property and unlawful use of a weapon with possession on school property.
Childers said the school was not put on lockdown due to the "swiftness in which the threat was neutralized." Thayer School Superintendent Tonya Woods informed all parents about the incident within the hour.
Police state the incident is still under investigation.
