JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Police Department is investigating the discovery of a black female's body found at the intersection of Pacific and Commerce.

Police say the woman's body was found in a ditch near the road by someone walking their dog. Police also found footprints, and tire tracks near the body.

There is no clear sign of the cause of death, but police are still investigating and notifying the next of kin. Her body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock.

Region 8 News spoke with a family who lives not far from where the body was found, and they told us they walk in that area, but are unsure if they'll continue now.

Police stated the body is a black woman around 30-40 years old. Officers state she has thinning hair and a number of distinctive tattoos, including some that are names and dates.

On Saturday, police said they are working to identify the body of the woman.
