JONESBORO, AR (A-STATE) – Arkansas State senior forward Khadija Brown-Haywood has been named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after helping the Red Wolves to a pair of victories in the state of Louisiana last week.
Brown-Haywood averaged 21.0 points across two games at Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe, while also adding 7.5 rebounds and three assists per contest. She finished the week 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) from the field and drained 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) of her 3-point attempts.
The Centralia, Ill., native tied a career-high with 29 points in a 78-64 victory over the Warhawks on Saturday afternoon. She shot a blistered 10-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-6 from the beyond the arc and totaled 19 points at halftime to lead all scores. She finished the game by going 5-of-5 from the free throw line to keep her perfect for the week and added seven rebounds and two seals for an overall Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 33.
Earlier in the week against the Ragin’ Cajuns, she turned a 13 points, eight rebound performance as the Red Wolves remained perfect in league play with a 12-point victory.
Brown-Haywood leads the Sun Belt Conference with 9.4 rebounds per game and is third in the league in scoring at 16.7 points per contests. In Sun Belt games she is averaging a league best 9.9 rebounds and is second in scoring at 18.3 points.
A-State is in the midst of a four-game road swing that continues this week at Georgia Southern and at Georgia State.
