KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

A local pawn shop owner has received several calls from people who need help locating guns they say were stolen.

However, Tony Parr at Parr Family Pawn in Kennett said the majority of those callers do not have crucial information.

“The first thing I ask them is if they have a serial number,” Parr said. “Ninety percent of them do not have one.”

To help secure their property, Parr created a personal firearm record page that anyone can pick up at the shop located at 720 Kennett St.

Parr said the record page is to help owners. He said they should hide it in a safe place so it's available if they ever need it.

He said having the serial number makes all the difference when trying to locate a stolen firearm.

“Now if they come in and somebody's called and told me, “Hey, look for this serial number,” it is really easy for me to look for it," Parr said.

Parr said several people have already picked up a record sheet.

He encourages people to hide it in a secret place they will remember, but not near their gun.
