Police: Charges dropped against man who threatened woman, children

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - UPDATE: A Jonesboro man is no longer facing charges following an incident where he is accused of kicking in a door.

Initially, Ervine Hill was to be charged with residential burglary, criminal mischief, second-degree assault and second-degree assault on a family or household member.

However, on Thursday an officer spoke with the victim who said Hill moved out about three weeks ago but "does come over from time to time." Based on that information the burglary charge was dropped, according to the incident report.

Later that day, the same officer spoke with the victim again who said she wanted to drop all charges against "because she still messes with Hill," the report stated.

The woman also said Hill "has been a father figure to her kids for the past year" and sees them everyday.

A termination letter was signed by the victim which closed the case.

Jonesboro police arrested a man Tuesday night after they say he kicked in a door and threatened a woman and her three children.

The 31-year-old victim told police she and a friend had just arrived at their home in the 600-block of East Roseclair when Ervine D. Hill, 33, saw them and "started to back down the road to where they were."

According to the initial incident report, the woman ran inside the home and locked the door.

Once inside, they said Hill began "kicking the door."

After three kicks, he broke the door open and headed toward the victim and her son.

When a witness stepped in the way to block him, Hill grabbed the man "by the neck and pushed him against the wall," the report stated.

Once again, Hill approached the victim but her young son and daughter "got in front of her to keep Mr. Hill off of her."

After hearing that the victim was calling police, Hill reportedly left the home.

According to the report, "all the children were crying and very scared."

Police responding to the incident found Hill walking in the 200-block of State Street and arrested him on suspicion of residential burglary, criminal mischief, second-degree assault and second-degree assault on a family or household member.

He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
