BEE BRANCH, AR - Authorities have shut down another operation in north-central Arkansas where scores of dogs were crammed together, fed poorly and forced to endure filthy conditions.
Officials in Van Buren County have charged 56-year-old Gloria Jean Crawford with 163 counts of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, and one felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The substance was veterinary medicine.
The counts of animal cruelty denote the number of dogs found last week at what authorities say was a puppy mill operated by Crawford in this Ozarks foothills community.
In January, 130 cats and 89 dogs were taken into federal custody after a raid near Williford, in Sharp County.
Crawford is free on $15,000 bond and has filed a motion to get her dogs back.
