BERNIE, MO (KAIT) -

A Missouri man charged with child molestation told investigators the victim “asked him” to touch her. Investigators say the victim was 9 years old.

Bernie police arrested Robert G. Moore, 61, after receiving a tip from the Missouri Abuse Hotline.

During a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE), the victim told investigators that Moore “came into her bedroom, sat on the end of her bed and touched her private area.”

According to the probable cause statement, the girl said she had also “touched and rubbed” Moore’s “privates.”

The victim said the incidents happened “on more than one occasion” between December 2015 and January 2016.

On Thursday, Feb. 18, Moore went to the Bernie Police Department where he agreed to be interviewed.

During the interview, according to court documents, Moore denied touching the victim.

Police arrested Moore and placed him on a 24-hour hold.

The following day, in a second interview, Moore reportedly admitted to touching the child with his hand.

According to the court documents, Moore told detectives the girl “pulled her pants down” then asked him to touch her.

He stated he did “for a few minutes.”

Moore said on another occasion he had been sitting on the bed with the child when she “put her hand down his pants” and touched him for a “few moments.”

Police arrested Moore on suspicion of two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy. He is being held at the Stoddard County Jail in lieu of a $35,000 cash-only bond.
