The westbound lane of Union Avenue in Downtown Jonesboro was reduced to one lane of traffic Tuesday morning.

Crews with the Jonesboro Street Department were out Tuesday morning putting up signs and blocked off an area in front of 411 Union, the building that was destroyed in a fire last summer.

Tracy Clayton, a team leader for the street department said they were taking precautions in case any debris fell because of high winds.

We put some signs up in advance back there to let people know that the lane was being closed down but we're just trying to keep the public safe,” Clayton said. “We’re going to put sandbags down on the barricades so that if the high wind does come up, the barricades won’t blow down as well.”

Jonesboro E911 Director Jeff Presley reports the lane closure is expected to continue into Wednesday afternoon.
