DEXTER, MO (KAIT) -

Investigators charged a Missouri woman with felony assault after they say she drove her car into a ditch.

The crash, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, happened at 9:32 p.m. Monday on the U.S. Highway 60 North outer road, just west of Dexter.

Elizabeth A. Poirier, 63, of Wappapello was westbound when her 2008 Toyota Avalon ran off the dead-end road and struck a ditch.

Poirier was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Her passenger, 60-year-old Johnny W. Jenkins, was flown to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau with unspecified moderate injuries.

Before she left for the hospital, MSHP charged Poirier with second-degree felony assault and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident.
