LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The city of Leachville is hoping they find someone who will want to place a grocery store in town.
About a year ago the only local grocery store they had, the Farmer's Market, shut down.
Mayor Ralph Wells said the city cannot afford to build or operate one.
He realized the need because many residents are relying on the local Dollar General.
"We have a lot of elderly people here in town and they can't just pick up and go somewhere else," Wells said. "A lot of them don't have transportation, so we definitely need a grocery store."
Wells said they do not necessarily need a supermarket, but a medium-sized one with good meat, dairy, and produce departments.
"I think when someone sees the potential here we will get one," Wells said. "I'm very optimistic. I have the perfect spot in mind. It's a matter of someone coming along wanting to start a grocery business."
A city council member even started a Facebook page, hoping to attract businesses.
