Kennett man pleads guilty to murder of wife

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - A southeast Missouri man pleaded guilty to second degree murder Wednesday in Dunklin County Circuit Court.

According to Captain Tim Trowbridge with the Kennett Police Department, Allan Branum, 51, of Kennett pleaded guilty in a deal that drops the armed criminal action charge originally filed in 2014.

Branum was arrested by police after his wife, Regena Branum, was shot in the head with a .38 caliber revolver at a residence at 305 N. Jackson Street.

A probable cause affidavit stated that Regena and her husband had argued about an affair he had the year before.

Police were called to the scene after Allan called 911.

Trowbridge said the couple had issues with domestic violence in the past.

Regena died at a Memphis hospital.

Allan Branum owned Allan Branum's Disposal Services, LLC in Kennett.

Branum will appear in court April 21 for sentencing according to online records.
