JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Several students from across Region 8 participated in a Black History Quiz Bowl Saturday in honor of Black History Month.
They gathered at the A-State Student Union for the competition.
It was held to raise money for school supplies for the schools that participated.
The event also gave students an opportunity to learn more about black culture and to reflect on some of their greatest moments.
"Like Martin Luther King and how he helped us and how he is a great role model for kids now days and helping us learn he did was great and we can do something like that too," student Alysa Mitchell said. "Also, just because we are a different color doesn't mean we are different from anybody else. We can have the same level of intelligence as the next person."
This is the second annual Black History Quiz Bowl that's been hosted by the Black Professional Network.
The group plans to continue the event to help support local schools in Region 8.
The network wants to thank the many businesses who supported the event.
