PIGGOTT, AR (KAIT) -

Members of the Piggott Cemetery Association recently gave Liberty Park's picnic grounds quite the makeover it deserved.

Scott Hartwell, the president of the association, said the kitchen has needed repairs for awhile.

The venue is used for many events throughout the year.

Hartwell said it had several leaks from the roof.

Fortunately, they were able to install a new roof before the summer months, which holds the the big 4th of July festival.

He said more work needs to be done, but this is a big step in the renovation process.

Kevin M. Edmonds Jr. is a Piggott resident who told Region 8 News he is hopeful the renovations will lead to expansion.

"I have a little girl and she's 8-years-old and we like to come here and have a lot of fun," Edmonds said. "I think it's great they can actually upgrade. Hopefully they can continue to expand for the picnic and bring more people and bring more business back to this town. We really need it."

Hartwell hopes to get the building painted before the big festival.

He said it all depends on time and money.
