CORNING, AR (KAIT) - The Corning Area Chamber of Commerce held it's first ever Business Expo on Friday.
President of the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce Amanda Wiedeman said the expo first began with a suggestion from one person.
"We actually had a local chamber member who was interested in having an Expo here in Corning," Wiedeman said. "We got together and with our board and decided that we would try to let businesses in town actually tell about their services that most of the people in the community do not know about."
Wiedeman said next the decided to see if businesses would participate in one.
"We actually sent a message out to our chamber members," Wiedeman said. "To poll them and see if they would even be interested in having an Expo and we had a very good response."
"It kind of gave them an opportunity," Wiedeman said. "To come in and list those services and tell people things that they don't normally know that some of the businesses actually offer. We have all kinds. There's anything from healthcare to radio to photography. We have some of our local head starts. There's many here."
Corning resident Pasty Sollis was thrilled with the Business Expo.
"I think it's wonderful," Sollis said. "It's been supported very well from the surrounding communities and from the local businesses also. We've enjoyed it very much."
"They're very excited," Wiedeman said. "They're actually learning a lot. I've actually learned a little bit here myself today. You might know you have a business, but might not know all the services that they offer."
The Business Expo took place at the community center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Well over 200 people participated.
Wiedeman said the hope to make this an annual event.
