PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

Residents at a Region 8 assisted living center got to step back in time with Senator Hattie Caraway.

A tea party was hosted Monday afternoon at the Chateau on the Ridge in Paragould.

Dr. Nancy Hendricks, aka Hattie Caraway, took time out of her schedule to sit and talk with residents about her life.

March is National Women’s Month and Activities Director with the Chateau on the Ridge Lauria Baker said they wanted to pick a female who had made a huge impact in the Region 8 area.

“She was the first female U.S. Senator to be nominated to the Senate,” Baker said. “And that was during the Depression and World War II. So, that was very historical. But she did a lot of changes, not only in Arkansas but throughout the world for women’s rights and our abilities to have all the different liberties we have today.”

Baker said the residents had been looking forward to this event for some time.

“My residents have just been ecstatic,” Baker said. “They’re excited. It’s something to look forward to. Throughout the whole month they’ve waited and waited for this.”

Residents from the Morningside Retirement facility also joined the afternoon tea party.
