LAFE, AR (KAIT) -

Many residents in Lafe and surrounding areas found out Monday that a Dollar General is coming to town.

Mayor Huck Oglesby said the Dollar General bought land next to the city park on Highway 135.

He said many residents have to drive quite a ways to get to a grocery store.

“This will be good for us,” Oglesby said. “I’m glad we are getting it to help everyone.”

Edith Davis, whose son owns a gas station in Lafe, said she is not too worried about the competition at all because it will benefit the community she loves and serves.

“Dollar General has the quick food items that most people need instead of having to drive to town,” Davis said. “That's awesome for the people here because a lot of them live back in the hills and it's quite a ride.”

Oglesby said the company plans to break ground in 6 to 8 months.
