Man sentenced to 20 years for child pornography

INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - An Independence County man will spend 20 years in prison after investigators said they found more than 100 images of child pornography on his cell phone.

Jason Lee Sarrels, 36, of Pleasant Plains pleaded guilty to 120 counts of pandering or possessing visual or print medium depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

In exchange for his plea agreement, Circuit Judge Dan Kemp sentenced Sarrels to 240 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Independence County sheriff's investigators arrested Sarrels at his home on West Club Road on Sept. 23, 2015, after obtaining a bench warrant.

When told he was being arrested for possession of child pornography, Sarrels "struggled violently" with a detective trying to detain him, court documents stated.

At the time, detectives seized a cell phone in Sarrels' left front pocket.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives said they found several more images of child pornography on the phone.
