TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - A Trumann animal rescue group took in seven dogs in one day from the local animal shelter.
The Trumann Arkansas Pet Savers took the dogs in because the animal shelter can only keep them for 10 days before they will be put down.
A member of the rescue group, Candice York, said luckily the seven dogs were instantly sent to another rescue group across the state.
She said that is likely never the case and the problem with stray animals still remains.
"We stress to everybody to spay and neuter their pets," York said. "That's the only thing that can happen here. The only way to solve the problem is to get them fixed."
York said she spoke with Mayor Barbara Lewallen and said she is looking into getting grants for a low cost program for stray animals.
"That would help the animals and the community a lot," York said.
