Car Seat Manufacturer to Bring 250 New Jobs to Region 8

MARCH 30, 2005 - Posted at 7:50 a.m. CST

COLT, AR - A California plastics company is to announce plans to relocate to a site near the Cross and St. Francis county lines.  Cross County Economic Development Corporation chief Bill Thomas says the firm will bring as many as 250 jobs.

Thomas said both counties and the state worked to recruit the company, which he would not name.  The company will make infant car seats at the facility, which will be built in the town of Colt, on Arkansas 1 just north of Forrest City and south of Wynne.  Colt is also the proposed site of a regional airport that would serve both Cross and St. Francis counties.

St. Francis County and Cross County will each provide the California company with $200,000 in incentives.

The manufacturer will locate in a building that was occupied by RBX Industries, which made rubber isolation products for air conditioners.  About 170 people lost their jobs when that plant closed last year.
