WYNNE, AR (KAIT) - Heavy rains in Cross County resulted in swollen ditches and flooded streets in some areas.
For residents on Childress Drive in Wynne, they're glad they now have a quick way out of the neighborhood if a bridge in the area closes due to high water.
A road recently constructed between Childress Drive and Smiths Village Drive created an additional exit if the J Street Bridge closes due to high water.
Prior to that new road being built in the area, residents on Childress Drive had a tough time getting out of the neighborhood when the area flooded.
"I don't know why it gets so high," Mary Lopp said. "One thing, the kids throw so much trash down there in the ditches. I don't know if that's part of it. Everybody that comes across that bridge they be throwing something off in it, a hamburger sack or something."
Lopp has lived on Childress Drive for 8 years. She told Region 8 News that she'd like to see the problem alleviated through signage discouraging littering.
