LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Heavy rainfall has prompted the closure of some schools and roads in southern Arkansas, and forecasters say the deluge will continue for the rest of the week.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings and flash flood warnings for areas of the state that have been drenched by a stalled-out storm system. More than 6 inches of rain has already fallen in Monticello, Pine Bluff and Stuttgart this week, and the weather service says the precipitation will keep coming.
Forecasters say heavy rain is possible Thursday, especially in southeast Arkansas where widespread flash flooding has already occurred. Minor to moderate flooding is expected on some rivers as well.
Rain remains in the forecast until Saturday, and the weather service says severe storms are possible on Sunday, too.
