JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The 17-year-old boy charged in a Sunday night shooting in Jonesboro is being tried as an adult.

According to court documents, Mercale Bush is charged with felonies for criminal attempt to commit first degree murder and aggravated assault and a misdemeanor for fleeing.

Police said 22-year-old Johnell D. Weems was shot multiple times near the intersection of Fairfield Dr. and Parkwood Rd. shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Responding officers saw people running from the scene as they arrived.

Ptl. Weston Gates began chasing one suspect, later identified as Bush, and saw him throw a gun before he caught up to him.

Weems was able to identify Bush as the shooter from a picture shown to him before he went into surgery.

Weems is undergoing treatment at a Jonesboro hospital.

Bush is expected back in court April 27.

If anyone has more information about the case, they may call Detective Shay Racy at (870) 935-6710 or Jonesboro Crime Stoppers at 935-7867 (935-STOP).
