Baxter Co. man arrested on burglary, theft charges

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Department arrested and charged a man for the break-in and robbery of a cabin.

According to a press release, 29-year-old Matthew Edward Gauger of Mountain Home was arrested on March 10 and charged with felony residential burglary and felony theft of property.

On March 2, the sheriff’s department received a report of a cabin in the Henderson area broken into.

The front door of the cabin had been kicked in. Investigators said antique and rare coins, 1888 Cambridge Bible were stolen.

A week later the Ozark County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office contacted Baxter County investors asking if there were any reports of stolen coins.

Lieutenant Terry Johnson traveled to Ozark County to interview the suspect being held on unrelated charges.

The suspect said he was paid with the coins by another person who he identified.

A Baxter County investigator contacted the second person who led them to Gauger.

Gauger initially denied being involved with the robbery but when confronted with the evidence he admitted to the robbery, the news release stated.

Gauger is currently being held in the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
