WILSON, AR (KAIT) -

At one point Sunday night, the town of Wilson was in the path of dangerous storms when their tornado siren failed to work.

Fire Chief Paul Welch told Region 8 News on Monday the radio burnt out on the siren.

Shortly after attempting to sound them, the fire department contacted police.

That's when Police Chief Curt Chandler got in his vehicle and turned his sirens on.

He went down street after street alerting the community of the possible tornado in the area.

“I talked to some of the citizens and they did hear me,” Chandler said, "There were a couple of people that didn't. They said they were sleeping or just didn't hear the sirens. But I had a lot of good feedback.”

Chief Welch said they ordered new parts for the siren on Monday.

Chandler said although the storm was not as bad as they anticipated, they will be better prepared for the next wave of severe weather.
