Thieves cart off thousands from former grocery store

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police say someone broke into a former grocery store and carted off thousands of dollars' worth of items.

Don Latourette owns the former Sav-A-Lot grocery store located at 411 W. Washington.

Latourette told Jonesboro police Monday that sometime in the last two weeks someone has entered the store and stolen multiple items.

He said the culprits stole at least six compressor and condenser units from the large walk-in coolers, two large air conditioner motors, a large amount of copper wiring and multiple shopping carts.

Latourette estimated the loss at $10,600.

He believes someone "familiar with the building" is responsible, because he said there were no visible signs of forced entry.

Anyone with information on the theft should call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP (7867).
