FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A Washington County Sheriff's deputy has been shot after responding to a call of a suicidal person.

Sheriff's office spokesman Kelly Cantrell says the deputy "was alert" and was taken to Washington County Regional Medical Center. The deputy's name was not released Tuesday afternoon and Cantrell says she does not have information about the extent of his injuries.

Cantrell says several deputies responded to an emergency call for a suicidal person about 1:18 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Bob Lawrence and Howard Porter roads outside of Fayetteville.

Cantrell says a suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, but the suspect's name was not being released at this time.
