LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - More details were released in the investigation into a deadly fire that killed a 12-year-old girl and injured her family.
According to Detective Jamie White with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old boy was taken to the Med in Memphis in serious conditions. White said the other five victims are expected to be okay.
The sheriff's office, in conjunction with Arkansas State Police, is investigating the fire on Lawrence County Road 239 near Black Rock and Powhatan. The fire occurred around 2:13 a.m. Wednesday.
Imboden and Black Rock Fire Departments responded to the blaze. White said the fire appears to have started in the living room area.
White said all seven people were inside the home. The names of the victims have not been released, but White said 2 adults and 4 juveniles were hurt.
Arson investigators with Arkansas State Police were sifting through the home Wednesday as a standard operating procedure. White said he does not believe foul play is suspected in the case.
Neighbors in the rural area said they heard a loud boom around 2 a.m. when the fire started.
Jewel Jones lives right down the road from the family.
"We were pretty close," Jones said. "We are neighbors, and it's heartbreaking. I need all the people to pray for them."
There is no word yet on how the fire started.
White said the office may be able to release the identities of the victims Thursday.
