Sex offender arrested after moving in with victim

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested a convicted sex offender Tuesday after they say she moved in with her victim.

Officers arrested Cherrelle S. Gregory, 28, on suspicion of failure to register and violation of a no-contact order.

Gregory pleaded guilty last June to sexual assault and computer child pornography after police say she gave birth to her victim's baby.

She was 26 years old when she got pregnant. Her victim, according to police, was 15.

As part of her negotiated guilty plea deal last June, Gregory agreed to have no contact with the victim for 5 years, "either in person, by telephone, in writing or otherwise, either directly or through someone else, and to stay at least 100 yards from the victim, even if the victim seems to allow or request contact."

Jonesboro police learned Monday that Gregory was living in an apartment on Daybreak Street with the victim, according to an incident report.

The manager of Cedar Park Apartments told investigators Gregory leased the apartment earlier this month in the victim's name.

She said Gregory and the victim, who is now 18, came to her office together on March 1.

After learning the male did not make enough money for approval, she said Gregory completed the paperwork needed to rent the apartment until February 2017.

A week later the two returned to the apartment office and the male signed the rental agreement.

In addition to violating the no-contact order, police say she did not provide a change of address.

As part of her conviction, Gregory was required to register as a sex offender and to follow all rules related to the registry.

Gregory is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center awaiting a probable cause hearing.
