KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Civic leaders in Kennett want to better utilize space in the community's garden.

The garden sits on 7 acres; however, one big section of it is not in use.

Healthy School Healthy Communities Assistant Coordinator Christina Nixon said they are offering residents individual plots that cost $20 a piece in hopes to fill the space.

At the end of the year, residents who purchase a plot will get half of their money back and the other half will be used for the garden, which is located on Commerce Street.

"That $10 we keep will go towards the upkeep and the supplies that we will need to keep that program going after this year," Nixon said.

Anyone interested in purchasing a plot can contact the Dunklin County Caring Council at (573) 717-1158.

Nixon said residents who purchase a plot will get to keep everything they grow.
