JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police cited an Arkansas State University employee for public intoxication Wednesday.

According to a police report, Jason Andrews, assistant athletics director for football operations at A-State, was cited for public intoxication.

The report stated Andrews was seen walking around in different yards and knocking on doors along Woodsprings Road at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers dispatched to the scene found Andrews and said they smelled a “strong odor of intoxicants” on him.

Police said he also was slurring his speech and was unsteady on his feet.

Andrews told police he was trying to find his friend’s house, but did not know where it was.

Officers took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was cited, given a $205 surety bond, and a court date for 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Arkansas State released a statement to Region 8 News on Andrew’s arrest:

“The Arkansas State Athletics Department is aware of the incident that occurred this morning with Assistant Athletics Director for Football Operations Jason Andrews, and it is currently in the process of gathering all information and details.  The Athletics Department expects all employees to display a high standard of conduct and represent the University in an appropriate manner at all times.”
