OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) -

An Osceola man died after being shot in his own bathroom.

Osceola police responded to a call at 1:15 Saturday morning on the 300 block of St. John Ave.

When police arrived, a witness was tending to Ernest Battles who had been shot twice and was unresponsive.

According to Osceola Police Chief David Gladden, Battles was shot one time near his right rib and a second time on his left side.

Emergency responders transported Battles to the emergency room and he died around 3 a.m.

Police are still searching for a suspect in the homicide.

They ask anyone with information to call the department at 870-563-5213.

Family and friends of Battles told a Memphis television station they could not think of anyone who would want to harm him.

“There is just a lot of things, hurt and anger,” Ernest's son Rico Battles said.

Rico said his father was a friend to almost everyone.

“He had a heart of gold,” Rico said.

The family now just wants justice for Battles.

“I feel like our family will not have closure until the person is brought to justice or the people who did it are brought to justice,” Rico said.
