Update: Wrong-way crash snarls downtown traffic

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Traffic in Downtown Jonesboro was at a standstill as crews were called for a crash.

It happened in the 200-block of Main St. around 8 a.m., according to Craighead County Dispatch.

A man reportedly drove the wrong way down Main. He struck a brick flower planter. A light pole was also reportedly damaged.

According to the accident report, the driver went down the wrong way at the Main Street/Union Avenue split when he hit the divided roadway sign. The driver then continued down Main Street once he got back on the road before striking the planter.

Bill Campbell, director of communications for Jonesboro, took photos of the crash and tells Region 8 News the driver was taken from the scene by ambulance. 

A Jonesboro police officer on scene said the driver was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center. 

During examination, police learned that the driver had been admitted to the hospital for numerous seizures in the past.

According St. Bernards administration, the man is in stable condition.
