BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

The Blytheville Police Department, fire department and Mississippi County Sheriff's Office are investigating a case where a man may have burned down a house.

According to Fire Chief Mike Carney, the fire department responded to a house fire on 500 Tennessee Street Wednesday evening. When firefighters arrived, they discovered "obvious signs of an accelerant" in the home.

Carney said the fire marshal discovered patterns of fuel poured throughout the home and found a can of gasoline in the carport area.

The fire did extensive damage to the living room and kitchen areas.

Police have a suspect in custody, but have not officially filed charges.
