JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Saturday was the annual "GOURDeous" Birdhouse workshop at the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center.
This event was to wrap the 2016 Spring Break activities for the nature center.
The nature center wanted to take this opportunity to not only provide a fun activity for the community, but also a learning opportunity.
Visitors of all ages got to paint the gourds and then take them home.
Lee Elkins, education program specialist, said they had around 300 to 400 people attend the event.
"We have had a great response so far, lots and lots of kids, parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles," said Elkins. "It's always fun to see what they come up with, the creativity that their kids have, it's just wonderful to see"
Miss Elkins says Native Americans used gourds hundreds of years ago as birdhouses for all different species.
The Crowley's Ridge Nature Center will have more events coming up at the beginning of April.
